August 26th, 2006 Dear Editors, The sad fact of media coverage has once again demonstrated itself to be true. Without bombs, without gritty visual images and without breaking-news events, the media have done their common 'disappearing-act' as new and different stories fill our television screens and our front-page broadsheets. No longer are we bombarded with the conflict and the media have moved on. Those of us far-removed from the deadly conflict are fortunate enough to have such detachment. But it is crucial not to forget those who don't have such luck. Those who have had their houses, businesses, families and lives destroyed deserve attention and support whilst critical solutions are being sought and - we hope - found. It is not enough to leave and move on. Please let me pass on my respect and admiration for those from Lebanon and Israel who have contributed to this Special Edition. You are an example from which we should all learn and I send my deepest condolences to all of you that have been affected by this unnecessary war. Let the discussion of this issue not stop with the ceasefire. Rather, let us continue to seek new ways to solve this seemingly eternal conflict, through discussion, debate and through challenging our views. Let us stand out from other media groups and stay with the injured, affected and distraught. Yours sincerely, Juliet Courtney August 20th, 2006 Dear Editors, Thank you for this opportunity to contribute to this landmark edition of the Globalist Foundation. This compilation represents a global effort, one that seeks to present a parallel to the global effort for peace in this controversial conflict. Let us all hope that the ceasefire will hold and that each side stays true to their bargain. With the international support and vehemence in which we partake, may we hope for at least a tempered peace. Congratulations to its contributors and editors upon the completion of the Special Edition and for the crucial awareness that it will generate throughout the undergraduate community. And my utmost congratulations to the editors of the Beirut and Jerusalem Globalist for contributing so successfully. Yours from Singapore and the United Kingdom, Stephanie Tang July 20th, 2006 Dear Editors, I hope you and your families are both well. I send my heartfelt condolences for the lives lost on both sides, but also my unwavering support for an end to the conflict immediately. I understand the dilemmas and objectives of both sides, an on paper they are legitimate, but the manner of execution cannot be. This war is especially unique, for those most hurt by the hostilities have no connection with the goal sought and as a result, lives are lost in vain. A resolution can, and indeed must, be achieved and it is your duty, as ours, to remain neutral in order to come to it. It seems we have no power. We neither hold a seat in government, nor head an influential NGO. Yet we as students must demand this voice and let us be an example for the international community. May you both maintain friendly relations in order to hash out this matter, and may each of us at The Globalist Foundation stay abreast of the situation and discuss our own possible solutions. Understandably, our situation is incomplete without the emotional and true-to-life offence that was caused, but it is without as such can we come to an even better resolution. I wish you both the best and we are here to help in any way possible. We are all working towards the same ultimate goal of peace; now let us equip ourselves with the knowledge and discussion to reach it. With the both of you in spirit, Stephanie Tang
