Emelia Quist is a first-year history student at Cambridge University. She is interested in modern immigration and assimilation, as well as the way that new forms of communication are spreading globalization. Anne Taylor is a final-year print production student at the University of Cape Town majoring in media and English. She is interested in human rights issues. Nicole Reed is a second year history student at Cambridge University. Next year she will be focusing on social history and education, using southern Brazil as a case study. She spent six months living in Brazil in 2005, and came out of the experience with many Brazilian friends and a strong interest in the country. Joo Hyun Lee is a sophomore at Yale University. She has previously lived and studied in China and South Korea, and will be spending her junior year abroad in England. She is a political science major, and is particularly interested in the studies of war and humanitarian conflicts, international organizations, and developing countries in Asia and Africa. Karen (Zhang Xinyue) is the editor-in-chief of the Peking Globalist. She is a sophomore studying Chinese language and literature at Peking University, with a focus in modern Chinese literature. Apart from literature, she loves journalism, and has previous experience as a journalist and anchor at a TV station in Beijing. She hopes to study early childhood education in the future. Jonathan Bright is a third-year University College student in the joint political science and history specialist program. In addition to his interest in politics, Jonathan is also a recognized personality on the Toronto jazz scene, as a lead vocalist with the Toronto All-Star Big Band. Jordan Shaw-Young is in his final year of a philosophy specialist degree, minoring in political science and bioethics. As assistant publisher of the Toronto Globalist, he brings a passion for political philosophy, development economics, and budget time travel. After spending his final undergraduate year as the resident geriatric at The Toronto Globalist, Jordan will be pursuing a postgraduate degree in political and economic philosophy. Ben Roth is a sophomore Political Science and International Studies major at Yale University from Sun Valley, Idaho. He is particularly interested in issues of international diplomacy and law, and enjoys traveling and learning foreign languages. He plans to go to Brazil this summer to continue his study of Portuguese and to learn about environmental sustainability. He is also drawn to music and the outdoors and is a dedicated pianist and an avid backpacker. Alice Baumgartner is freshman at Yale University and works on Global21s editorial team. She is interested in journalism and human rights issues. Last year she worked with MTV to send disposable cameras to the refugee camps along the Chad-Sudan border so that the children living there could document their lives from their own perspective. She is currently training for her second marathon. Rushad Dordi works on the Global 21 editorial team. A double major in economics and molecular biochemistry, Rushad is fascinated with health-care finance and public policy, and especially in comparing the ways different countries deal with problems in public health. In his spare time, Rushad enjoys reading and learning American and European history, and spending time with friends. |
