North American Regional Conference: 2011

About the Conference

Global21 will host its second North American Regional Conference on November 4th-6th, 2011 at Yale University. Students from the Yale Globalist, Toronto Globalist, TEC Globalist (Monterrey, Mexico), and ITAM Globalist (Mexico City) will gather at the university, along with members from the budding Bowdoin Globalist (Maine). They will discuss issues in journalism, media, and international affairs with prominent individuals in these fields, and participate in various workshops to strengthen their chapters.

We are excited to announce The Yale World Fellows Program as Sponsors of our 2011 North American Regional Conference

We are looking forward to hearing from Marin Cogan of Politico about life as a journalist and the future of journalism.

We are excited to welcome Richard Just, Editor of The New Republic, to speak at our conference about magazine journalism.

Dr. Sallama Shaker, former Egyptian Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Americas and current Visiting Professor of Middle Eastern & Islamic Studies at Yale will speak at the conference about the effect of traditional and social media on the Arab world.

We are also looking forward to a discussion with Gavin Sheppard, Founder and Executive Director of The Remix Project.

We are looking forward to a workshop on journalism writing and editing from John Stoehr, Editor of The New Haven Advocate.

Mallary Tenore of The Poynter Institute will lead a conversation about social media and its uses in journalism.

Daniel Weisfeld, co-founder of Global21, will open the conference with a discussion of the organization’s mission and the achievements of its chapters.

About the Conference

Global21 hosted its first North American Regional Conference at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut on November 4-7, 2010. Internationally-minded student writers and editors from the Yale Globalist, the Toronto Globalist, and even one from the Sydney Globalist gathered to discuss world issues in an exciting and unprecedented atmosphere of debate, exploration, and mutual learning. Through workshops, panels, and guests speakers, students learned from each other and experts in the field about the most effective ways to pursue the mission of magazines.
