Toronto Globalist

The Toronto Globalist, founded in 2005, was one of Global21′s first chapters and has since been nominated as the best publication at the University of Toronto. This summer, its Editor-in-Chief led a video reporting trip to Egypt, working in partnership with Egyptian bloggers, to document the sentiments of Bedouin sheiks living in the Siwa oasis, theatrical civil rights educators in semi-rural Minya, multi-generational business owners in Marsa Matrooh on the Red Sea, and urbane activists in Cairo’s Tahrir Square. Inspired by the tradition of New Journalism, this trip set the tone for the coming year with a strong emphasis on intimate and evocative storytelling that seeks to explore global issues through humane narratives, and to thereby enable an empathic understanding of otherwise distant stakeholders.
