History
Global21 is a network of student-run international affairs publications at premier universities around the globe.

Global21 is a network of student-run international affairs publications at premier universities around the globe. Founded in 2005 by a team of Yale undergraduates, Global21 was jump started by a $50,000 grant from the Yale Entrepreneurial Society’s Y50K Entrepreneurship Competition.

Global21’s network is a practical tool for creating dialogue that promotes greater international cooperation and understanding among university students around the world. Through article exchanges, joint issues, an international blog, and continental conferences, Global21 helps high-achieving students hone the skills necessary to excel in fields of journalism, business, non-profit, and government work, with the hope that they will graduate from their university with the drive and ability to tackle global issues themselves. Global21 currently consists of twelve magazines in ten countries, specifically located at Yale University, University of Toronto, Institut de Sciences Politiques Paris, Hebrew University, University of Cape Town, Peking University, Sydney University, University of South Australia, the London School of Economics and Political Science, Ibmec University in Rio de Janeiro, University of Oxford and Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México.

Conferences:

Global21 organizes continental conferences on a tri-annual basis in different locations worldwide. Conferences consist of speakers, workshops, discussions, and other opportunities for students from different universities to get to know each other. Read more about our North American Regional Conference.

Joint Issues:

Joint issues are published by two or more Globalist chapters contributing articles and working together to combine viewpoints and to offer a truly international publication at each of their universities. This allows students to surpass language barriers and read articles from international students in a print edition form.

Article Exchanges:

Most publications print at least one article written by a partner university in the network. Global21 staff help facilitate the exchange of original journalism in addition to keeping an updated database of all Globalist articles which is shared with the network’s magazines.

The Perspectivist:

The Perspectivist is Global21’s blog and was established in 2009 as a venue for university students to informally share perspectives and write about important international issues taking place in their home region, regardless of whether their university is part of the network. The blog also showcases the winners of Global21’s annual Perspectives and Photographic Essay contests.
